An Introduction to Your Monkey Mind Connection

Good Morning, Dr. Bill here, welcome to my blog. Through my many years of practice in the field of primal psychology, it has become abundantly clear to me that people are largely unaware of one of the greatest resources their minds have to offer. In your mind right now, you have a built in resource so powerful that it can virtually assist you to:

Organize your thoughts

• Improve your memory

• Get a better night's sleep

• Reduce your stress level

• Be more productive

• Give you a sense of greater control in your life

• Boost your energy level

• Facilitate your creativity

• Help you connect with your inner voice

So, what is this new secret resource? It is actually a very ancient one, and it's been available to human beings since the dawn of time. It's your primal mind, A.K.A. your Monkey Mind.

For those of you who may be unfamiliar with this 'primal' area of your mind, you have probably encountered it many times before without even knowing it. If you are like most people, you've experienced times when your mind seems to race ahead without you and your head is filled with a veritable flood of unwanted thoughts. It seems that no matter what you do, your thoughts have a life of their own. They will not settle down and be quiet. This unsettling state of mind is what the ancient Eastern Philosophers referred to as our Monkey Mind.

For literally thousands of years this small but powerful part of your mind has been, in my opinion, largely misunderstood and unfortunately miscast as nothing more than a chattering nuisance. Books are written on 'how to ignore, disregard and otherwise rid oneself all together of the monkey mind.' This is quite impossible of course, but it is none the less, disturbing!

Your monkey mind is much more than the loathsome pest it has been made out to be. Are you not human? Just for a moment, try thinking of your monkey mind like an animal, like a monkey for instance. If you have any prejudice at this point, please get over it, Monkeys are non-judgmental. This can of course be a draw back at times, but we'll address that issue later. Monkeys are happy, playful, curious, creative and highly energetic!

These are only a few of the great qualities your monkey mind can and will share with you. So why have they had such a bad wrap and had such a negative image all these years? In a word, ATTENTION, your monkey mind has needs too, and it's primary need is for attention. This is where the non-judgment problem comes in. You see monkey minds, are a lot like children, they don't particularly care what kind of attention they receive, positive or negative. They simply need attention and will do anything to get it, including but not limited to running wild with your thoughts. They can prevent you from sleeping, focusing, meditating, etcetera. It's important you understand however, that your monkey mind is not misbehaving because it is inherently bad, your monkey mind is simply acting out for your attention!

Now that you understand the basics, we can get on with the program and you can begin turning your potentially delinquent monkey mind into a highly productive and resourceful part of your mind!
